A great way to increase your visibility (read get free publicity) is write something for a publication. You're a BirthWorker, you're knowledgeable in your field, you want to share important truths with more than just your family, friends and community. But writing can be challenging, especially if it doesn't come naturally or easily (which by the way, it doesn't for me). So start small. Consider doing an opinion or letter to the editor. I saw this opportunity for 250 words for the UK's Royal College of Midwives quarterly magazine & submitted a query. ( www.rcm.org.uk/midwives-magazine )Because I'm not an RM, I had to get special permission from the Board of Directors and they edited my piece heavily enough that it doesn't quite sound like me anymore, but that's ok, because I got it in there! It might not get me anything, but it was great practice getting something relevant done on deadline. You've got something to say, so say it! Struggle less, succeed more. I can help you with that!
